Extra Credit for the daily double please.....

My Korean class is going o-k-a-y I would say. I'm pretty sure I'm not one of my teacher's "favorites" but I don't mind. That just means she doesn't pick on me as often to do the oral participation. *whew* She did, however, offer an extra credit project to the class. Anyone that would like to do a presentation pertaining to the Korean culture at all would get an extra 2% on their final grade. Heck yeah!! I jumped on that offer!!

I think deep down my teacher was hoping I'd do something (knowing that I'm half Korean myself and also the fact that Anthony's mother goes to church with her!! I HAD to show myself worthy...haha)

What was my presentation you may ask? Well, it had to do with my love and obsession with food, and of course Korean food especially. Now, what was I to bring? Especially something that was cheap but enough to feed a class of 25-30 students?

I got it!!! Mandu!!! Yep. Everybody loves mandu...aka..gyoza..aka... potstickers..aka..yumminess!! Yes, that was my extra credit for today.....Although Anthony's mom wasn't around to make it homemade I still had the Korean market!

The  dumplings come frozen but only takes 5 minutes to make. Just fry them for 1 minute and then cover with 2 tbsp of water and steam for 4 minutes.

The results are nice steamed and chewy mandu. The flavor is just like any Korean mandu you'll come across at a restaurant or street vendor.

To add to the mandu I even made chojang! I was making sure my extra credit was a full 2%....maybe even leaning towards 3%... ^_^

How to make chojang, you ask? Well, here's my top secret recipe that's surely good enough to impress anybody!!

You'll need------

6 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp rice vinegar (or regular will do as well)
1 tsp of sugar
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 a tsp of seasme oil
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 dash of garlic powder
(1 tsp of green onions are optional)

Combine all the ingredients and mix!! That's it! Now you got yourself some fancy potsticker sauce.... ^_^

Jakopičevo sprehajališče, Tivoli, Ljubljana

Park Tivoli, Ljubljana

Park Tivoli as seen from the Tivoli castle. The statue of the two dancers symbolize sexuality. This promenade is called Jakopičevo sprehajališče and it was arranged by Jože Plečnik, the most famous and important Slovenian architect. I took this photo in spring of 2005.

Trip to Ljubljana, 2006

A walk around the Slovenian capital

Stolnica, Ljubljana's cathedral.

It was a warm and partly cloudy May day in 2006, when I decided to go on a short trip with my (now ex) girlfriend to Ljubljana. We had a nice walk from north to south and enjoyed some beautiful impressions of the city. She really liked Ljubljana, which is interesting, since she wasn't from here. I guess Ljubljana is beautiful to many foreigners. And rightfully so, it's a marvelous city after all.

Enjoy some impressions of that day:

The Franciscan church on Prešeren sqaure.

Tromostovje or The Three Bridges.

Stolnica or the cathedral of Ljubljana.

The Kresija palace closeup.

Stolnica and the Ljubljana castle.

Walking along Ljubljanica.

The arcades made by Plečnik near Kresija palace.

Mestni trg or Town square.

Ljubljanica river again.

Kranjski deželni dvorec is today the seat of University of Ljubljana.

The City hall of Ljubljana.
