Central Taiwan tour map

Below is a map of our Central Taiwan tour, which had the goal of seeing the famous Sun Moon Lake, but also exploring cities on the way such as Jiji, Shueili, Puli and Nantou. It ended with the visit of the Fengjia Night Market in Taichung. The first map marks the way from Taipei to Jiji via train, the second one marks the tour around Nantou county. Use these maps to navigate through the areas. Every link will lead you to my blog post about a certain spot.

My map of Taiwan island

Part of my Taiwan resource

This is my English version of the map found on ROC's government website Taiwan Administrative Region Map (all rights reserved to them). I added the common romanized names of Taiwan's cities, towns and national parks. I hope this map will be useful to those who intend to visit Taiwan and look for the locations of certain popular destinations on the island. You can find the original map here.

The population of Kaohsiung City

And I mean the real population of Kaohsiung City

Kaohsiung Urban area
Kaohsiung City was recently merged with the former Kaohsiung county and formed a bigger municipality. It was divided into 38 districts and some of them are huge, but very scarcely populated, because they're located very far from the actual city (sometimes they're even in the mountains).

That of course is a bit confusing to me, because I'm interested in the actual population of Kaohsiung's urban area. I have nothing against the way these districts are governed, all I want to know is how many people live in Kaohsiung, the actual city. So I checked some maps and data (source) and found out that the following districts are part of Kaohsiung's urban area (from A-Z): Daliao, Dashe, Fengshan, Gushan, Lingya, Linyuan, Nanzi, Niaosong, Qiaotou, Qianjin, Qijin, Qianzhen, Renwu, Sanmin, Xiaogang, Xinxing, Yancheng and Zuoying. You can see them on the map on the left, they're marked as black. If you count together the population of these districts, you get this number:

2.209.362 inhabitants.

So according to my personal idea of how a city should be defined, Kaohsiung has a population of 2.2 milions and is therefore the second biggest city of Taiwan (after Taipei).

Taipei Night Markets map

An accurate map of all night markets in and around Taipei

This map plans to mark all night markets in and around Taipei, but also in northern Taiwan, because it includes cities like Keelung and Taoyuan. As I visit more and more night markets, I will update this map, so please be patient, as there are only few night markets currently marked. Please drag the map left and right to check cities west and east of Taipei. Zoom in to find a detailed location of a specific night market.

Danshui map

This is my map of Danshui. Please click on the + and - to zoom in and zoom out. Also drag the map to the left, there are more parts marked. For more on Danshui, go to my main post. I have blogged about all the sights and parts found on the map here.
