Tweet Tweet Twitter Time

Oh, yeah. I started a Twitter account. I didn't think I was going to like it, so all these years I pushed the idea aside. Now, I'm slowly getting hooked.

I always love a new friend to chat with!- @Seaweedkisses

Baguashan Big Buddha, Changhua, Taiwan

Biggest Buddha statue in Taiwan

The Baguashan Big Buddha 八卦山大佛 also known as the Great Buddha of Changhua, is one of the landmarks of Changhua City, as well as whole of Taiwan. The 23m tall Buddha sits on a 4m tall lotus throne, which makes the overall statue 27m tall. The Buddha and most of its surrounding area was constructed between 1956 and 1966 (source). It used to be one of the biggest Buddha statues in Asia upon its completion (source). Today, most visitors in this part of the world choose to visit the 7m taller Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong. I admit, than the latter one has impressed me more, but if you find yourself in central Taiwan, don't miss this one as well.

On top of Bagua Mountain, the Nine Dragons Fountain in front, the Big Buddha at the back.

Zooming in.

Walking closer.

The meditating Buddha.

Side view.

The dark brown color resembles chocolate.

A lawn and a temple.

The size is obvious, when you stand behind the statue.

You can go inside the statue as well - this is the bottom part.

Revlon ColorStay Pencil Eyeliner

No raccoon eyes here. This baby stays on all day long and I love it!  This is my first pencil eyeliner I've purchased in a very long time. Most days I stay loyal to my L'Oreal liquid liner. The automatic Revlon twist pencil glides on so easily and has a nice smooth finish. The only bad part- It doesn't wash off as easily with just soap and water. I have to use my eye makeup remover twice in order for it to come off. This formula's strong, but worth it.

My week in a snap

This week has been somewhat busy for me-

Happy Hour has been visited almost every other night with colleagues.
Stuffing my face with sushi as usual. But loving my katsu curry too.
Bought some new nail polish in spring colors.
Essie is still my favorite nail polish brand thus far. Their colors last forever before chipping.
Forever 21 stocked up on some cute blazers.
Kimbap- a good snack when on the run.
I have a whole bag of Maxim coffee lying around the house. It'll take months until it's gone.

Changhua Confucius Temple 彰化孔廟

One of Taiwan's oldest Confucius temples

The Changhua Confucius Temple 彰化孔廟 was built in 1726 and damaged and restored over the course of a very tumultuous history of Taiwan in the past 3 centuries (read more here). I've visited quite few Confucius Temples in Taiwan and I could say this one was next to the one in Tainan, one of the most impressive I've seen so far. The temple is very well integrated in its surrounding neighborhood, but when you enter its premises, you feel like you've been thrown back to Qing dynasty era. This is definitely a must-see site, if you come to Changhua City.

A protective wall.

You have to pass the oval door to make it to the main hall.

The majestic gate.

The main hall.

Front view.

Beautiful.

The courtyard.

A detail.

Wooden doors with patina.

The altar.

The blessings.

Some hope, that their kid will pass an exam.

The Confucian school.

The doors are closed.

A peek inside shows how abandoned these class room is.

Outdoors girl

Hiking has been my new favorite thing recently. A lot of my money has been going to REI. I think I'm starting to fall in love with that store. *getting old* Their pants are so comfortable and perfect for a long sunny hike up the mountains. Oh, I even picked up a Camelbak and some Chaco sandals. Bring on the outdoors!

Trader Joe's Steelcut Oatmeal

This has been my power breakfast for months now. I just pop it in the microwave, stir, add a dash of cinnamon, and I'm done. Perfect for those cold mornings where I don't feel like cooking eggs or eating cereal.

Birthdays and Invites

Whoa. Look at that thick layer of frosting. Can you say "Sugar Overload??"

The last couple of weeks have been birthday galore at the work place. Just as I'm trying to be good, everyone whips out the good ol' sweet birthday cake. How could I simply resist? Although, I'm never really a fan of the cheap frosting used on store bought sweets.

Speaking of b-days, mine is coming just around the river bend. (Get it? From Pocahantas. I love that movie.)

I just finished sending out my invites, which took me like only 5 minutes. I love Facebook. I just did the batch invite to the selected friends, and viola, they're invited while I await for their reply. Now there no excuses such as, "Oh, I never received it in the mail...." Everybody checks their FB everyday and every hour. There's no way or excuse to miss this!

Also, a little tip I learned- For those certain people that like to show up fashionably late, I make sure I modify their times especially. This year my bday bash starts at 6 pm. But for those particular individuals that are always late (no matter how much you stress importance), I swapped their time to 5pm. Yep. It's been working thus far. They still haven't caught on.....and just as predicted, they still show up late, or more like on time now.
